Hotels In Monaco
There are two hotel chains in Monaco that I recommend – in fact, not just for the Monaco Grand Prix, but for every Grand Prix - and I’ll explain why.
The first has created a selection of properties exclusively for the Grand Prix Traveller. They have been around for eons and they offer a standard of property that the most discerning guests will approve of and enjoy. They are Hilton, and in particular, Formula Hilton.
The second, but by no means lesser choice are Accor Hotels. I love their hotels because they range from Formule One to Ibis, to Mercure, Grand Mercure and Sofitel – as well as many other brands, meaning they offer a selection of properties for every standard, budget , and taste.
They are also so widespread that most Grand prix destinations provide a selection of Accor properties to choose from.
And with Accor, you know you will always receive a quality product.
So, lets get down to particulars for the Monaco Grand Prix – and I speak from experience here because I’ve stayed in or accommodated my clients in these particular hotels.
The Ibis Terminus Nice – located right at the Nice train station, but whisper quiet inside. Convenient location.
The Mercure Grasse – you’ll need a car because it’s a long way to the station, but what a location! My favourite thing about this hotel is the breakfast on the terrace followed by a quick dip in the pool before setting out for the day’s events – then returning in the evening for a few cleansing beers at the bar. This place offers both a relaxing holiday and respite from the adrenalin charge of the Monaco Grand Prix.
The Mercure Beaulieu Sur Mer – a short stroll to the station or to the water, this hotel is perfectly located away from the bustle of Nice, and smack in the middle of the manicured wealth of the Riviera. What I love best about this hotel is that you can walk the esplanade to Cap Ferrat, enjoy dinner as you watch the darkness fall and the lights flicker into life along the coast, then stroll back for a well earned nightcap.
You can’t go wrong with any Formula Hilton or Accor hotel and I suggest you look to these first, second, and third. Sure there are many private hotels that offer great accommodation, facilities and service…but on two occasions when I have made bookings and paid deposits I was ‘bumped’ and told my booking was no longer available – apparently they had better offers (in other words, someone was prepared to pay more and it was accepted). I don’t know if this practice is permitted or not, but it has happened in the past and I won’t tolerate it again. Obviously the fact that accommodation becomes sparse make this practice possible, but it also makes finding alternate accommodation at the last minute (because you’ve been gazumped) a lot harder. By all means consider private hotels when demand isn’t so great, just don’t rely on them during the Monaco Grand Prix.
